My #FavouriteThing today was a meeting at Kid #1’s new dance school with Kid #1, me, and the Director of the dance school. We got her schedule for next year (holy moly that kid will be wicked busy), and a bunch of relevant details. Pretty exciting getting our shit together and all the details and schedules sorted.
What was your favourite thing today?
My Favourite Thing was my daughter’s end of the year Choir (Glee actually) performance.
My mom made the two hour(ish) trip to watch her perform. She picked my daughter up after school as a surprise (last day of school, too!). We met up at my house briefly when I got done work, then the three of us made our way to the YMCA where she does Glee. The performance was sweet, and cute and all those things a Glee performance by 7-10 year olds should be. Kid #only (see what I did there? lol) is typically a very outgoing child, but she suffers from terrible stage fright. Terrible. I mean this kid will readily start talking, singing, and dancing in front of just about anyone, anywhere-unless of course she’s on a stage and told to do so. Then she freezes up and all you can hear is the crickets. Well, not this time! That girl sang her little heart out. Her voice was loud and clear, at least when she knew the lyrics, which was suprisingly often considering that she still isn’t reading at grade level, so she learned just from listening to the songs on my phone, or from the 45 minute weekly practices (two of the songs I just plain didn’t know). The other kids had their lyrics printed out, and she still kept up with them-and actually sang more than some who were doing the ol’ “I’ll just move my lips and no-one will know I’m not singing because the other people in this choir will pick up the slack” trick.
Afterward, we took our little starlet out for dinner. Over dinner, my mom and I had a great visit with lots of laughs. It was so nice.
And finally, my mom took my daughter home with for a few days.
