My #FavouriteThing today was a long talk with Kid #3 tonight. Nothing really specific. Just a long chat about life and friends and family, and navigating growing up. I love being connected so closely to my kids.
I also enjoyed going to a yoga class with Kid #1 at the community centre. It was a pretty easy, basic class, but because it’s an activity I haven’t been doing for a long time, I’m reeeeeally feeling it now. (The perks of having a super-awesome body.) But it was pretty great to be able to go and do something like that with one of my kids.
What was your favourite thing today?
My favourite thing was GERBILS!! So technically we had agreed that we would wait until the end of the school year (one week) to get “the” Gerbil-I use quotations because THE implies one, and I’ve known for a little bit that I was going to come home with two (SURPRISE!). Yesterday the breeder (yes, there are Gerbil breeders)contacted me and said I could pick up two sister Gerbils last night. I wasn’t going to say no and end up having to get pet shop gerbils (how elitist of me…it’s also possible that I just really wanted to surprise my daughter), so I quickly made arrangements to get a Terrarium and all our Gerbily needs and pick up the new pets on my way to get my daughter from her after-school program. Double awesome bonus points for my mom who found out my plans and decided to chip in on everything. Moms/Grammys rock. When I showed my daughter her new pets she was shocked into calm. That’s how she works. She’s a very excitable, energetic kid, so when she gets surprised, she reacts the opposite of everyone else. She was completely calm and said, “I thought you weren’t getting it for another week. Oh there’s two. I didn’t ask for two.” Now if I had brought a Popsicle, she would have been bouncing up and down screaming hahaha. What a kid. Anyway, she really was thrilled and I was impressed with her caring, responsible approach to her new pets.
Still Gerbil related, but another favourite thing was watching the CAT get terrified of the GERBILS. Yep. Scardey Cat for sure. One of the Gerbils appeared to get the joke and as soon as she got into the ball, she chased the cat. HAHAHA. Oh man.
Another, slightly more serious, favourite thing was being able to be there for my mom. She was just having one of those days where you feel blue for no reason. I randomly messaged her and then called her. She told me that it meant so much to her to hear from me. My mom has always been there for me, even at times in our life when maybe we didn’t like each other so much-see here: She went through menopause at the same time as my sister and I went through puberty- I always knew my mama loved me and would die a thousand deaths for me. I was so happy to be able to return the favour even just once.
All around, wonderful day.
